Places to Visit in the North of Mallorca

Alcudia is the part of the town housed within the old city walls, not to be confused with the modern port across the peninsula or the resort running down the coast south of the peninsula. A charming little town which is well worth a half day trip (perhaps combine with Can Picafort or some walking on the Alcudian peninsula for a full day trip),

Some Thoughts on Life in an Andalucian Village

Who would be idiotic enough to open a hotel in a village that is not even on most maps! Many people, including bank managers, agreed that I was nuts when I decided to do just that. But for me it was one of the main appeals of Cartajima. Perhaps because it is so undiscovered, it is a little paradise of a village.

Valencia

I must have spent far more Christmases outside the UK than in it in the last ten years. The novelty of feeling the warmth of the sun’s rays on my back surrounded by Christmas trees, Christmas spirit and the odd dodgy battery-operated Santa Claus never goes away. But this was my favourite yet, as I grew to know the city of Valencia much better.

Sierra Espuña

The Sierra Espuña is a nature park situated in the region of Murcia, a little way inland from the Mar Menor. Travelling from Alhama de Murcia we skirt the edge of the park, and passing through Gebas we have the protected zone of the Barrancos de Gebas (The Badlands!) off to our right.

Sustainable Cuisine

Fast food has been with us for years, and "all inclusive" is now a growing trend. Yet wouldn't it be so much better if the emphasis was placed on slow food and sustainability? That is the view of chef Adrian Broins who told us something about agriculture and gastronomy on Tenerife.

Old classic architecture, narrow winding streets, tiny boutique shops, plenty of old churches, a castle in the centre of the city, lots of lush verdant parks sm

I've been visiting Majorca now for 4 years, graduating from package tours to organising it all myself. For 3 years we stayed on the eastern coast, at a resort called S’Illiot, half way between Porto Cristo to the south and Cala Millor to the north. During these 3 years we also relied on public transport.

Be Careful What You Put on Social Media

You're enjoying your holiday, the sun is shining, the food is great, and you've just seen how dismal the weather is back home: it's the natural thing to take a selfie and post it on Facebook. But perhaps you should think before you act. The Financial Ombudsman has warned that police forces across the country have noticed a correlation between burglaries and social media posts.
