Downcliffe House Hotel
, The Beach, Filey, Yorkshire.
This beautifully refurbished Victorian house has been elegantly restored with exquisite luxury and good taste into the Downcliffe House Boutique Hotel, one of the finest boutique hotels in North Yorkshire. Featuring The Waterside Restaurant, it serves excellent meals and the chef is especially proud of the fresh fish dishes locally caught right on the doorstep. With free evening parking right outside and the beachfront not even a stone’s throw away, Downcliffe House Hotel makes a wonderful getaway on the Yorkshire coast.
The restaurant’s extensive menu has separate lunch and dinner menus and also a comprehensive selection of sandwiches and salads for those looking for a lighter bite at lunchtime. The dining room has panoramic sea views and there is also a terrace outside to enjoy drinks and a snack. Continental breakfast is served every day.
The decoration of the guest rooms is first class and most have a sea view and a great chance to watch the sunrise over the sea. They are all spacious, the Superior Rooms especially so, and are equipped with flatscreen television, telephone, desk, hairdryer, and the complimentary toiletries in the bathroom are by Molton Brown.
In 2018 Filey was voted Beach of the Year by the Sunday Times so guests don’t have far to go. Just up the coast is Scarborough with its Maritime Heritage Centre, Sea Life, the harbour and the Heritage Railway. A short way down the coast at the far end of the long sweep of the Filey Bay beach is Flamborough Head. Then inland you could head for the North Yorks Moors or the city of York itself.
