El Patio de Tita
, c/ Jardin, 13, Los Realejos.
El Patio de Tita is a typical Canarian-style building that was once the centre of a tobacco plantation and today is surrounded by a forest of banana trees (much healthier!). It offers suites or apartments with one or two bedrooms, in a country hotel environment, with the independence that comes from having your own kitchen.
El Patio de Tita has been in the same family for many years, since long before it was opened up to visitors, and the gardens reflect the history. There are ancient trees, some younger fruit trees and palms, and a terrace with proper wooden loungers, a swimming pool and a hot jacuzzi. Even the outdoor lighting has been carefully designed to avoid light pollution of the sky, ensuring the best possible view of the celestial glories of the Canary Islands. There is a barbecue in the garden where guests have the option to prepare their dinner out of doors and enjoy the balmy evening air.
The suites are very nicely prepared with country furnishings and finishes in quite a rustic style, consisting of a bedroom (or two), bathroom, kitchen, living room and a terrace. There is a telephone, television, wireless internet access, towels and bathrobes in the bathroom, some facilities for making light meals in the kitchen and wooden outdoor furniture on the terrace.
El Patio de Tita is really well-situated in the Orotava valley, close to the "Montaña de los Frailes" natural park on one side and the beaches near Puerto De La Cruz on the other. It is only five minutes walk from the village and there is even a bus service that passes by the door.
Finca El Patio de Tita recently completed a renovation of the entire banana plantation and the whole estate has now gained "Organic" accreditation. Organic bananas, eggs, vegetables and tropical fruits are produced on the estate. These can be purchased from the farm shop and of course are used by Patio de Tita's own restaurant.
Meals
The recently opened Restaurante Finca El Patio offers breakfast and dinners for those who don't want to prepare their own. A young team of cooking professionals specialise in creative dishes from local ingredients. For an alternative choice, there are also three other restaurants all within 300m of the hotel: El Monasterio, El Tenderete and Las Chozas.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
Got lost getting to it - so arrived pretty late. Accommodation clean - bungalow style so really you never meet anyone if you don't want to. Setting in plantation so pretty idyllic. No noise: fantastic. Apart from heavy iron door opening and closing when anybody comes into complex. As the bungalow was near to entrance, if your planning to stay in late choose another one. Staff excellent and superbly friendly. |
We had a great time and enjoyed good weather. Our hotels were all good in their own way. At our second hotel in the north (El Patio de Tita) we were really pleased. The cottages were excellent and the ambience first class but the food was the best bit. Adrian who runs the restaurant was superb and his cooking is to die for. |
We arrived at El Patio as planned, no trouble with the instructions. Our accommodation was very acceptable, though quirky. I felt the patio & patio cushions could have been abit cleaner/tidier. Inside was clean, but very basic, especially in thekitchen area. WE had to buy a teatowel plus dishwasher liquid. There was absolutely nothing in the kitchen. We were happy to stay there, the restaurant on site was excellent but not open the night we arrived, however the weather was very dull & overclouded. Having spent 3 days with little sunshine, & coming from Scotland where we have had a ghastly summer, we felt inclined to move on to La Gomera where there was plenty of sun! We are very happy with recommendations you have made so far & will certainly use you again. |
This is a lovely property if you're independent travellers who want to sample north Tenerife, in a traditional Canarian town, away from the southern resorts. The area is lush and green with a dramatic coastline, very like Madeira. As with Madeira, the greenery comes because of cloudy winter weather but despite it being February, we were able to have sun every day by travelling along the coast or up the mountains. (As a tip, drive into the wind direction to find the best weather). All the mountain areas are well worth a visit as are the Botanical Gardens and Orchid Gardens in Puerto Cruz. The property was good and the high quality conversion made the rooms feel light and airy especially with the high ceilings. The standard of fittings and furniture is generally good and in keeping with the property. The kitchen was quite well equipped but needed a bit of updating - eg some missing and/or chipped crockery needed replacing. There were plenty of pots and pans although only a 2 ring hob. A small oven or a microwave would have been useful. The grounds were lovely, particularly the pool area but a bit small if too many people wanted to use it especially if there was a mix of age groups. This property isn't really suitable for children, as there is only the pool area for them to play in. This is a property (and area) where there is relatively little English spoken. This lead to some misunderstandings over access so make sure that arrival arrangements are clear! The fact that this is a self catering property which can be booked on a daily basis makes this a useful option for just a quick break or to fit with available flights rather than being tied to a week long booking as is so often the case. Little Hotels comment: An electric mini-oven is available on request. Unfortunately we didn't make that clear enough on our webpage, but we have now corrected that. Our apologies. |
We had an excellent holiday at Patio de Tita on Tenerife. The apartment was lovely and the views of banana grove and sea from our bedroom very unspoilt. Carmen was a charming host and the swimming pool, jacuzzi and free bananas for breakfast couldn't be faulted. Compared with being in a hotel the peace and privacy were wonderful. One minor gripe - two halogen rings were the only cooking facilities - no electric oven as per the website. Didn't complain as it wasn't a big deal and we wouldn't have wanted to change apartment as I think we had the best one! |

A Word from the Owner
Our family were banana growers and were born in this house. Now we have adapted it for tourism, but we still have our banana plantation all around. We offer you a stay in our suites/apartments, surrounded by beautiful natural places and we are very pleased to offer you our hospitality.
