Hotel Rural Morvedra Nou
, Cami de Sant Joan de Missa, km 7, near Ciudadella.
Just 7 km from the historic capital of Menorca, the Hotel Rural Morvedra Nou is an ancient farmhouse (with its origins going back to at least 1650) that has been brought back to life as a little hotel, preserving all the rural Menorquin character for those who want to come and enjoy the tranquility of this lovely area. Right out in the countryside, just a few miles from the gorgeous virgin beaches of Macarella, Cala Turqueta and Son Saura, Morvedra Nou has excellent views across the countryside with the sea on the horizon and even offers guests transport down to the nearby coves.
The hotel is equipped to 4 star standards with a large garden, swimming pool, bar, restaurant, and ready access to outside facilities such as horse-riding and bike hire. There are lots of exposed stone walls, wooden beams and traditional tiled floors, all showing the care that has gone into the renovation.
There are 16 double rooms, two superior double rooms a junior suite and a suite, all decorated in harmony with their rural surroundings, with their own terrace and four star facilities like air conditioning, full bathroom, telephone, television and even beach towels.
Nothing is very far on Menorca, but Morvedra Nou is especially well positioned for the lovely little beaches of Macarella, Cala Turqueta, Son Saura and Es Talaier where the facilities are negligible but the beauty is unsurpassed. An equally short trip in the opposite direction arrives in Ciutadella, with its airy squares, historic churches and houses and the beautiful port and marina.
Please note that Morvedra Nou is an adults only hotel, with a minimum age of 14 years. A car is essential in this location.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
The hotel Rural Mourvèdre Nou is a lovely country hotel converted from an old farmhouse building. It is in a very peaceful location about 6 klms from Cuitedella, the old capital of Minorca. The room (17) we stayed in for the first 5 nights was upstairs in the main building. It was spacious with large bedroom, a dressing area and a large en-suite. It also had a large balcony terrace from where you could view the countryside and the hotel gardens and pool. We loved its traditional feel. Our last two nights were in a modern larger suite (24) in a building at the bottom of the hotel gardens; we had to move because of a previous booking. The suite was clean, modern and private with good facilities but lacked the charm of 17. We ate in the hotel a few times; the tapas and starter dishes were excellent, but we were a little disappointed with the main courses- all from the a la carte menu. The ‘set’ meals didn’t always appeal to us and were relatively poor value. The breakfasts on the other hand were fantastic, with plenty of choice and beautifully laid out. The staff were, without exception, wonderful; a special thanks to Eva and David, but also to all of them. The road to the hotel is narrow with highest dry stone walls imposing themselves on the driver. Care is needed with some give and take - no passing places at times-on both sides. There are lots of beaches around, which require- in general a lot of walking to from the car parks; perhaps up to 30 mins! We tried 4 and they were all crowded since the Spanish holidays had just started. Cuitedella is a lovely old city with plenty to see and lots of restaurants; well worth a visit or two. We booked a car through the agency Little Hotels recommended. They list a range of car hire companies including for example Hertz, but many local and cheaper companies. I chose Ownerscars- but never again. They are off site- ie a shuttle ride some 6/7 mins from the airport. Getting the shuttle involved scrummaging to get on with no queues formed or managed, then being driven to the car hire office and quequeing again; then out to find the car and check it over etc. In all it took longer than the flight to get in the car and drive- some 2hrs 15 mins! Coming back and dropping it off was marginally better but still took 40 mins. However car hire aside, the holiday was relaxing and enjoyable. We would go to the hotel and island again. |
We have just returned from a lovely week in Menorca staying at the Morvedra Nou.
An intimate family run hotel with a small but very welcoming and helpful staff most of whom spoke excellent English. The hotel is a converted farm apparently and is thus in a very rural setting. I would think a car is a must and the smallest one you can get away with as apart from the main ones the roads are very narrow with stone brick walls on either side. To begin with, bearing in mind the hire car and left hand drive, I just stopped when we met a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. (After a while I gauged the width ok but it was only inches between wing mirrors!) We were booked for bed and breakfast only and the morning meal was really excellent-buffet style with tremendous choice. We stayed for the evening meal on a couple of occasions and although quite acceptable, was not over inspiring although it was explained to us that the a la carte menu would not begin until June. One other small point is that we missed having beverage making facilities in our room although there was a well stocked fridge. All in all it was a lovely relaxing hotel which we would recommend strongly. Providing you hire a car and don't mind a 10 or 15 minute walk it is within a few miles of all the best beaches in that part of Menorca. Thank you to all the staff for making our holiday so enjoyable. |
We stayed at Morvedra Nou and found it be excellent. Peace and quiet, as clean as clean could be, beautiful gardens with space to chill out, lovely pool. Great room, double in the main building, fresh linen every other, day, every day if requested, helpful friendly staff. Near to beautiful beaches easy reach of Citadella. Set menu in the evenings or a la carte, both good value for money. Highly recommended. |
We had a wonderful holiday thank you. Hotel Rural Morvedra Nou was perfect for us. Lovely setting, very peaceful and relaxing. Excellent service, friendly staff. We will definitely return and also use Little Hotels again as you seem to find hotels we like. |
We stayed at the Morvedra Nou, Menorca, from 1st-8th October and it exceeded our expectations:- The setting - a beautiful, cultured oasis in the middle of quite harsh farmland - was a real surprise. Furnishings in the main house and our room were tasteful and high quality Great food - we stayed for dinner there 4 nights out of 7 Laid back atmosphere, very relaxing Very friendly management and staff who couldn't be more helpful Ideally located for some of the best bays on the island Brilliant value for money We certainly hope to return very soon. Can't recommend it highly enough. |
We had a great time. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly. My only criticism is the food choice was very limited. Luckily although my daughter and I don't eat meat we do eat fish. The menu each day did say to speak to them about other choices but it felt a bit nit picking to say we didn't want fish for the 7th day in a row! Having said that the food was on the whole really nicely cooked and presented and we were told when we had unknowingly chosen something with meat in it. Menorca itself was a wonderful surprise and we would definitely go back to the island and the hotel. Thanks for all your help in arranging the hotel - luckily the volcanic ash stayed away at the right times. |
We had a great holiday and the hotel was great. The only criticism I would make is the standard of cooking for the evening meal. Having had a moan though, its still a lovely spot and the bays are fabulous. |

We Say
This little corner of Menorca is one of our favourite places on Planet Earth, going way back when we discovered Macarella and Cala Turqueta while on holiday there. It's a pleasure to see Morvedra Nou preserving the rustic beauty yet opening it up (slightly) so that a few others can enjoy it too.
