The Casa Grande de Alpandeire is a village house from the 17th century, fully restored as a Bed and Breakfast, plus restaurant. In the tradition of town houses in southern Spain, the Casa Grande is built around a central patio open to the sky. Then in the more modern tradition, the patio is covered with a glass cupola and a sun-blind to ensure that the patio remains a comfortable place in any weather.
The patio is a key place for guests to sit and relax, along with the terrace at the front of the house, and a second tiny little terrace at the back which overlooks the last few buildings of the village and then the hillside beyond. There is also a small lounge alongside the reception.
The guest rooms are accessed from an attractive gallery which runs around the patio at first floor level. Most are double-bedded rooms with an en-suite bathroom, but there is also a family room with two bedrooms. The rooms are not large but they well cared-for and elegant in a simple understated way.
Alpandeire is just a sleepy little Spanish village, yet it lies in an area of great beauty. Everywhere around there are the mountains of the Serranía Ronda and the Genal valley. There are lots of pueblos blancos to visit and the celebrated town of Ronda is only 17km away.
Meals
The restaurant is situated in the old stables of the original Casa Grande (the "Big House"). It is distinguished by an unusual vaulted ceiling and stone walls with decorative brickwork. Local traditionalal dishes are a speciality, as well as modern classics. There is a variety of salads and starters, vegetarian dishes, grilled and roast meats (Iberian pork, beef, venison, duck, suckling pig, lamb) and a choice of homemade desserts. Like any Spanish restaurant, there is a wide selection of Spanish wines available at reasonable prices, including a number of local wines from the Ronda area.
