Finca Las Encinas
, Calle Partido de Los Juncares, S/N, Iznájar.
Finca Las Encinas is a gourmet B&B offering comfortable accommodation, fine cuisine and also cooking courses for those who would like to learn more about good food and fine wines. The location is utterly rural, in a tiny hamlet tucked into the edge of the Sierra Subbética nature park.
If you've ever wondered where your olive oil comes from, the answer is all around at Finca Las Encinas; mile after mile of olive groves, occasionally interspersed with fruit trees and oaks. The nearest village is Iznájar, prettily situated on a peninsula jutting out into long and meandering Lake Iznájar. There are many fascinating historic treasures in the area, which is also good for a rural break en-route between Granada and Córdoba.
Finca Las Encinas is thought to be almost 200 years old. It has been sympathetically restored to a high specification in a pretty country style keeping many original rustic features. The building is surrounded by patios and terraces, and of course there is a small swimming pool for cooling down on a hot summer day. The cooler parts of winter are attended to by underfloor heating and a wood-burner in the lounge.
Finca Las Encinas holds th Andalucia Segura Badge approved by the Regional Government of Andalucia. This is a seal of approval for Covid-19 measures to enhance the safety of visitors in every sort of tourist business.
Food is the raison d'etre of Finca Las Encinas.
Andalusian breakfast is served from 8am to 10am with freshly-squeezed fruit juice, a variety of home-baked bread, locally cured ham, cheeses, seasonal fruits and coffee or tea. Japanese-style breakfast is available on request at a small additional cost.
Three or five course dinners are served each evening, with barbecues also available in summer. The chef's own recipes are presented in a dinner-party style, always using fresh organic ingredients, many of which are grown "at home" on the finca. Advance reservation is essential.
The cookery courses are a fun way of brushing-up on your skills and learning something new. They are not too intensive, so there is still lots of time to enjoy the scenery and the sunshine. And of course you get to eat what you cooked!

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
What an amazing place!!
We had a wonderful stay at Clive & Maki's beautiful guesthouse. They could not have been more welcoming or accommodating to us. We were travelling with our six month old baby and they made our stay so enjoyable with their friendly relaxed hospitality and great company. They gave us really good recommendations for nearby traditional Andalucian villages to visit also. The food was excellent and added greatly to our experience. We would love to return again soon.
What a lovely place to stay in rural Andalucia !
A bed and breakfast hotel like no other.
Late arrival due to flight fiasco. Arrive 11.15 pm in the dark but thanks to Mika's excellent directions we arrive safely but perhaps not over confidently. A1 welcome.
If one is looking for abject luxury you would not consider this as a holiday destination. If you are looking for something unique in the midst of olive groves in a clean and comfortable place with a pool in a small hamlet and then add a friendly welcome from the owners and their pets then you have found this little gem. My wife and I stayed for 9 nights. We had al fresco dining and the dinners prepared by Clive were nothing short of sensational. Clive even attempted to show me how to prepare a meal (I need practice) but the result was a tasty offering even if my presentation was nowhere nears the chef's.
You can have quiet or conversation but if you do not like people this place is not for you. Other guests we mingled with we felt as if we had known them for some time; such is the holiday (little) hotel's uniqueness and atmosphere. The owners are chatty and intelligent. Clive has a dry humour (do not light a match near him) Mika is the opposite. Perfect combination!
Ok to drive to Cordoba, Granada, Antequera and even the coast. We could have done Seville too.
Try it. You will love it. We will return.
Maki and Clive made us extremely welcome in their beautiful Finca. Everything was just great; lovely pool, quality food prepared with love, comfortable rooms, lots of help and advice about places to visit. We had a really restorative week; thank you very, very much. We hope to see you again some day.
A wonderful stay, perfect for us. The venue was superb, rural, with small towns and villages nearby to visit. We had already been to Córdoba, Granada and Seville some years ago, and on this occasion enjoyed the 'real' Spain with Iznajar, Cabra, and Priego de Córdoba on the doorstep as well as the beauty of wild flowers of the Sierra Subbetica. It was a gourmet experience with Clive's cooking - without gourmet prices. His head chef experience shone though. Maki has created rooms with character and charm and deals with the business side. They are a remarkable couple, thoroughly immersed in Spanish life, speaking the language and involved with the wider Spanish community.
Wonderful hosts, as we found on the six evenings when we were the only people eating there.
Not to be missed.
