Enfrente Arte
, Calle Real, 40, Ronda.
The hotel is currently closed for renovations and alterations. More information and 2020 rates will be added here when they become available. In the meantime this is how we described it for 2019.
Beautifully situated in the oldest paved street in Ronda and surrounded by historic buildings, this unique and oh-so-laid-back hotel is just moments from the centre of the town yet faces directly out to the "Sierra de las Nieves" national park. The Tajo bridge, the Arab baths and the famous "Fuente de los Ocho Caños" are all right there.
The house itself has been decorated with unusual and eclectic details that are elegant, original, novel, bohemian and sometimes just plain wacky. Above the intimate bar and relaxed dining room, the hotel also has a recreation room with a pool table, television, a library as well as a computer with free access to the Internet.
The subtropical garden, with a large variety of exotic plants, birds and fish is a magnet for nature lovers and small children alike. Various romantic courtyards and terraces offer stunning views of the mountains, the river "Guadalevin", the old town and the renowned horse riding school of "Maestranza de Ronda".
Enfrente Arte also provides an outdoor swimming pool and a sauna. Those with more energy can burn some calories at the new multi-sports complex just around the corner.
Enfrente Arte was born from the idea of providing a hotel that is a home-from-home, without limitation or strict timetables. For the duration of your stay, all drinks, breakfast-brunch buffet, and the use of all facilities are included in the price of the room.
The self-service bar offers a selection of tea, coffee, refreshments, juices, beer, wines and sherries.
The hotel has featured in a number of television programmes and films and been a part of various projects like concerts, sound recordings, production of video clips, release of an alternative travel guide, etc.
Meals
The breakfast-brunch buffet serves a wide variety of hot and cold dishes such as pastries, carpaccios, pancakes, fruits, cheeses and local meats, cereals, eggs and much more. The hotel has no restaurant for lunch or dinner but being so close to the centre of Ronda, that is hardly an inconvenience. For a really memorable meal, there are some restaurants in Ronda perched right on the rim of the gorge. The staff of the hotel can give you some recommendations.
Occasionally themed dinners are organised in the hotel, for instance a barbecue or a Moorish dinner.
Out and About
Walking, hiking, horse-riding, golf, cycling, beaches 45 minutes away, sports centre, various activity sports companies nearby.
Ronda is an amazing and fascinating town. The setting of its breathtaking ravine, dividing the old Moorish quarter from the new "Mercadillo" quarter, turns it into a unique place. The two parts of town are connected by an 18th century bridge where you can look straight down to the river 100 metres below.
Once captured by the Romans, later transformed into a Moorish stronghold and finally conquered by the Christians, the city is full of remains of this rich and turbulent history. There are numerous monuments and historical buildings worthy of your visit.
Ronda, birthplace of the legendary Romero bullfighters family, played a leading part in the development of bullfighting. The bullring, built in 1781, is one of the oldest and most important of Spain and its museum reveals an outstanding collection.
Take note of some famous opinions :
Ernest Hemingway mentioned the city in some of his books, suggesting it to be the best place "to spend your honeymoon or to see a bullfight for the first time".
Rilke called Ronda "the city of dreams".
Orson Welles even loved this town so much that he chose it to be his final destination. His ashes were finally scattered at Ronda on the ranch of his friend, the famous bullfighter Antonio Ordoñez.
Ronda is the ideal base for day trips to explore the rest of Andalucía. The town is surrounded by unspoiled villages, impressive mountains and national parks like the "Sierra de las Nieves", "Sierra de Grazalema" and "Los Alcornocales", offering a diversity of stunning landscapes, wildlife, walks and activities.

Double rooms with sitting corner, and garden or mountain views.
Deluxe with Private Terrace. 2 rooms with private terrace, with views on the garden and/or the mountains.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
We stayed at two of "littlehotels" during our Andalusia-trip in april and may and were very satisfied. We can recommend "littlehotels" for booking. At May 4/6 we stayed at Hotel "Enfrente Arte", Ronda. We'd ordered 1 "A"Double Room and 1"A"Superior Room. The room rates were ok for that, especially as there were offered free drinks all over the day and at night even if you don't use that so much because of the sightseeing. The Breakfast was good. The impression of the hotel and the rooms was very special because it is like an "art-hotel". The hotel was close to all points of interests. |
Have used Little Hotels of Spain a number of times before and always found their recommendations interesting. This hotel however is outstanding. Beautiful setting which the owners make the most of with some very different outside spaces on different levels - some very shady, others in full sun, some quite small and intimate, others definitely communal. We love the fact that it is quiet with rural views yet on the edge of an interesting area of town. We stayed for 4 nights and had 3 different rooms - our choice. We had 2 type A rooms which were completely comfortable and quirkily decorated with all the expected facilities - we also stayed in the suite for 2 nights - such a lot of light and space, well worth the extra 10 Euros. Staff are ever present and attentive yet unobtrusive. The inside communal space is also diverse - an interesting mix of traditional and modern - we were never in any doubt that we were in Spain. Loved the very relaxed approach to breakfast/lunch - lots of tasty cold bites plus ham and egg type dishes - I would have appreciated more fruit myself, a minor point however. The 'free' 24 hour drinks facility was excellent and added to the sense of community as well as the sense of well-being! We intend returning probably next spring to do some walking - it was way too hot (30+) this time. |
Hotel Enfrente Arte in Ronda was one of the prettiest and cosiest hotels I have stayed in (although the bizarre artwork does take some getting used to). The service was fab and the breakfast and drinks were much appreciated. We had a great time and would definatley use both you and the hotel again. You have both contributed to a holiday full of wonderful memories. Thanks again for everything. |

We have just returned from our trip in which we booked two hotels through you, and my fiance and I agree that we couldn't have been happier! The Enfrente Arte hotel in Ronda was beautiful, and the staff were some of the friendliest people we met on our trip. We also used your car hire service and were very pleased. Thanks for helping to plan a wonderful vacation! |

We Say
I am perpetually fascinated by Ronda: the rugged gorge splits the town in two, and the height of the bridge leaves me awestruck. We had a memorable dinner in a restaurant beside the bridge, with just a low stone wall separating the dining terrace from the chasm. The Enfrente Arte is a distinctively different hotel that makes an excellent base for visiting Ronda and the area.
