Nestling in a beautiful, peaceful valley in the southwest corner of Mallorca you will find the charming village of S'Arracó, situated just a few minutes drive from the chic port of Andratx and ten minutes from the beautiful sandy beach of St. Elmo. Here is the family-owned Hotel L'Escaleta, a delightful, converted village schoolhouse, rich in history and style, with stunning views and comfortable accommodation. The island national park of Dragonera is only a short boat ride away.
All the bedrooms have been meticulously and painstakingly renovated with careful thought to include all modern conveniences but maintaining traditional style and charm. Different colours, fabrics and furniture have been utilised to create individuality and relaxing comfort. Each room has air conditioning, central heating, hair dryers, immaculate ensuite bathrooms and, of course, stunning views - an ever changing vista of glorious spring almond blossoms, olive groves and green hills. The garden and swimming pool are very private, offering pools of warm sunshine or areas of sun-dappled shade. For the safety of small children, the pool surroundings are gated.
L'Escaleta is also available as a whole-house rental only, accommodating up to ten people on a self-catering basis.
Walkers will find endless treks within easy reach of L'Escaleta and cyclists have the scope for tours around the whole island. Furthermore, there is a multitude of other activities available including golf, horse riding, climbing, paragliding and all manner of watersports. All these activities can be arranged for you, but if all that seems too much, just sit back and admire the spring valleys filled with fragrant almond blossoms, stroll through an eclectic Mallorquin fiesta or just get to know the friendly locals and Mallorca's timeless culture.
There is a huge choice of restaurants in and around Andratx. Suzanne will advise you if necessary. On selected evenings L'Escaleta offers simple tasty dishes using fresh local products. These dinners need to be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

Just a short e-mail to tell you what an amazing few days we had at Hotel L’Escalita in Sororcca. We were made very welcome by Suzanne and her mother Dorothy and out first impressions of the hotel were very positive. There was a very intimate feel and it felt like a home from home with honesty bar, sitting room with tv/stereo and a beautiful Mediterranean garden and pool which looked amazing, as many of the spring flowers were in bloom. Our room was extremely comfortable and clean with a view from the balcony across the village. Our hosts were so helpful and friendly we could not have asked for more, and we hope to return again with our children next year. We would recommend to anyone seeking an authentic and tranquil setting on the beautiful island of Majorca.
After our 12-day stay at Hotel Escaleta we cannot praise it highly enough. Suzanne and Dorothy went out of their way to make us feel at home in their converted village schoolhouse. They literally couldn't do enough to help. Because I have various dietary problems, I was willingly provided with a boiled egg every morning (a very pleasant buffet breakfast was otherwise provided), and on the two nights in the week when Suzanne is happy to provide dinner, she went to great pains to plan delicious menus around the foods which I could enjoy.
The rather long, steep stairs to the second floor were well worth the effort needed to climb them when we reached Room 5 - a spacious room, full of character, with windows each side and a sloping beamed roof. For a long stay like ours, the bedding was changed every four days, and the bathroom was immaculate with plenty of immediate hot water on tap.
The pool in the secluded garden was rather too small for my husband to do serious swimming but he enjoyed the opportunity for a refreshing dip in the oh-so-peaceful surroundings. I myself was disappointed that there were no handrails or bars by the steps as I?m recovering from a hip operation. After one tricky attempt to stand up from the edge of the pool I had to resign myself to not going in again. Other residents also commented on the lack of a handrail when climbing out, so perhaps this could be considered as a helpful addition at some point?
The village of S'Arraco is quiet - just a couple of bars and one very good restaurant. There is a delightful 4 km walk starting up the lane from the hotel, and beaches at the small family resorts of Sant Elm and Camp de Mar are just a few minutes drive away, as is the unspoiled town of Andratx with its pretty tree-filled square (and another very good restaurant) and its Wednesday market which stretches out over the town in all directions. Our favourite place to visit was Port d'Andratx with its attractive harbour and its choice of restaurants, several by the water?s edge (from where you can watch the sun set) and some up little side roads. It?s worth walking across to the other side of the harbour and making your way through the boat yard to the pleasant residential area where you can walk out on the jetty and look back at the harbour - gorgeous in the Mediterranean sunshine, which is not always present in September, as we discovered!
Is there a drawback? I have to say that, if you're not used to driving on the right and coping with a myriad hairpin bends and very narrow streets, you could find it quite unnerving. My husband managed the driving very well - but perhaps it's worse in the passenger seat! The main road from the airport or from Palma itself is very good and extremely well signed. Other residents explored the North and the East of the island, making good time on easy roads.
All in all, with slight reservations about September weather (though it was always warm and we could always eat outside), this has been a really special holiday - due in no small part to the hard work put in by Suzanne and Dorothy, and the friendly atmosphere created by them in their little hotel.
Just a quick line to say how much we enjoyed our stay at L'Escaleta in Mallorca. As our first visit to Mallorca it could not have been better. The Hotel was friendly and comfortable and both Suzanne and Dorothy were keen to make our stay one that we would remember. The garden is a lovely, calm oasis and a superb place for breakfast, which was first class with fresh fruit every morning and hot croissants, meats and cheeses. We were keen on walking in the area and Suzanne and Dorothy gave us many tips of where to go which made our holiday such a success. Add to all this some wonderful weather and we will be looking to return next year again!!
We stayed six nights at the hotel l'Escaleta in s'Arraco, Mallorca. We found it very comfortable with friendly ownership.
The area is quiet with easy access to beaches and also the rugged countryside of the western side of the island. Far from the mixed reputation of much of the island and the big resorts. A car is essential though there is a reasonable bus service.
We would thoroughly recommend the hotel for a quiet restful break and will certainly return.
Just to let you know that the above hotel was excellent and Suzanne was a perfect hostess. Car hire was very good as well. thanks.
We had a very successful stay in Hotel Escaleta. Suzanne is a very friendly and helpful person. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom spotless. It was good to have a real bath rather than just a shower and there was plentiful hot water at all times. Suzanne is also an excellent cook.
The hotel is well located with beautiful countryside close by and only ten minutes from Andraitx with it's harbour and dozens of restaurants.
